Resolution to Abolish Sardari and Nawabi System Beyond Comprehension, System Is Centuries Old: Nawab Muhammad Khan Shahwani, Sardar Kamal Khan Bangulzai

Prominent tribal leaders of Balochistan, including Nawab Muhammad Khan Shahwani, Sardar Kamal Khan Bangulzai and other chieftains, while addressing a press conference in Quetta, said that the resolution tabled in the Balochistan Assembly regarding the abolition of the Sardari and Nawabi system is beyond comprehension.
Nawab Muhammad Khan Shahwani said that the Nawabi and Sardari system is a system that is hundreds of years old. The head of a tribe is the Sardar; it is not a designation but a family system that has been running from generation to generation. He said that this system has a history spanning hundreds of years, we resolve disputes and play our role to save the parties from fighting.
He said that this system cannot be abolished, not all Sardars are cruel, Sardars have saved thousands of people from killing and being killed. If there is any flaw in the system, it is not the fault of the system but it may be of an individual who runs it. The system cannot be wrong anywhere, those who run it can be wrong.
Nawab Shahwani said that if someone makes a mistake personally, the entire system and community cannot be called wrong, personal likes and dislikes cannot be attributed to the Sardari system. He said that a traditional and customary Sardar saves lives and respects the honor of others, all decisions of a Sardar are made with the consent of the parties and there is a record of these decisions.
He questioned whether Balochi and Brahui languages will also be banned in the future? Every tribe has its own structure. We are not running the tribal system for power, our duty is to serve humanity. He said that the people sitting in the Assembly belong to one tribe or another, I consider the abolition of the Sardari system as foolishness. Nawab is a title given by the British.
On this occasion, Sardar Kamal Khan Bangulzai, while addressing, said that we are not worried about the Assembly’s resolution but we are clarifying what this system is. The Sardari system is the name of a proper code, it is not a one-way traffic, it is designed according to the nature of the people.
He said that if you want to end the Sardari system, what is its alternative? The judicial system should be improved. The situation in Balochistan is in front of everyone, can anyone travel by road? Law and order should be improved, the system should be improved. Nations are not against the country and the flag, tribes are the guardians of the country’s borders. He said that this Assembly resolution will not be passed.
